Dr. Amit Atrey

MD, MSc, MRCS, FRCS

Amit Atrey, is an orthopedic surgeon specializing in hip and knee replacements. With a medical career spanning over two decades, Amit graduated from the University of London, UK in 2000. He is triple fellowship trained in joint replacements and trauma, ensuring his patients receive the most advanced and effective treatments. As an Associate Professor at the University of Toronto, Canada, Amit is not only a skilled practitioner but also a dedicated researcher, constantly seeking new ways to improve patient outcomes. His mission is to empower individuals to regain their health with minimal pain and maximum recovery potential. Amit is also the visionary behind eduCAST.org, a testament to his commitment to education and community engagement. With his expertise and passion for delivering exceptional care, Amit Atrey is your trusted partner in achieving optimal orthopaedic health.

Dr. Alison Atrey

BSc (Hons), PGDip, SRD, PhD

Alison is a dietitian with over 20 years of experience in clinical and research dietetics, specializing in Cardiovascular Disease (CVD). She graduated from King's College London in 1996 and spent 17 years at Imperial College's CV Medicine department, where she developed a passion for teaching and research. Alison was instrumental in several landmark projects, including the EUROACTION RCT and MyAction NHS project. She contributed to the UK guidelines for diet and secondary prevention of CVD and was a key figure in developing the master's course in Preventive Cardiology at Imperial. She obtained a PhD from Imperial in 2013, the BDA's Role of Honour in 2006 and 2009 and was a finalist in the Imperial Student Choice Awards in 2016. In 2017, Alison moved to Toronto and collaborated with Dr. Atrey on eduCAST.org, a medical education company. Her contributions continue to shape the future of accessible care and education with Joint Recovery.

Bryce Hunter

Executive Producer

Executive Producer specializing in technology and media, he is responsible for bringing the program to life. With a background in business he's led companies working at the top of their field in television, video games, education, and quantum machine learning. He was the producing partner of eduCAST.org, the founding leader of WildBrain (one of the world's largest multichannel networks), Boxcat Inc. (the world's first quantum animation rendering company), and Hydro Automation (a media operations automation company). Bryce has worked with world renowned brands from Jim Henson to Nickelodeon to the US Department of Education. He has spoken at conferences and institutions ranging from MIT to Princeton to Brazil 3.0 and actively provides guidance on brand IP management and game development pipelines to early-stage startups and Fortune 500s alike.

Meet the Physiotherapists

Erika Van Pooten
BScPT

Erika has always been fascinated by the complexity and resilience of the human body and this was a defining factor in her decision to become a Physiotherapist. This decision allowed her the opportunity to practice both in Ontario as well as to travel abroad and work in Tucson Az for 11 years. Her main focus has always been outpatient orthopaedic.

Stephani Oolup
MScPT, BMSc

Stephani is a physiotherapist who is passionate about keeping people moving well, for as long as possible. Her interests in biomechanics, strength and movement quality training allow her to see the opportunities for growth in clients of all ages, professions and stages of life. She works in outpatient physiotherapy clinics to deliver her care, where she loves educating clients about their bodies to develop independence in their own exercises and life.

Sara Latter
MScPT, BScH

Sarah is a Registered Physiotherapist in Toronto. She completed her BSc (Honours) in Kinesiology at Queen’s University and  her Master’s of Physiotherapy from St. George’s, University of London in the UK. Sarah has clinical experience in a variety of specialities however now works primarily with people who have acute or chronic Neuromusculoskeletal conditions. She holds certifications in STOTT Pilates and ELDOA level 1 and 2 and is passionate about movement-based therapy and teaching her patients/ clients more about their bodies. She is sensitive to the unique needs of her patients and uses a biopsychosocial approach in both her assessment and treatments. Ultimately, her aim is to help patients achieve their personal goals, whether that is getting back to peak performance or being able to participate in activities of daily living.

Caroline Jones
BSc.PT, MSc

Advanced practice physiotherapist graduated from the University of Toronto in 1987. She completed her ACPAC training in 2006. Received a Masters in Rehabilitation Science from the University of British Columbia in 2011. Caroline has worked as a physiotherapist at St. Michael’s Hospital since 1987. She currently specializes in osteoarthritis. She is passionate about helping people have the best recovery possible after surgery by providing education and support. She is involved with numerous research projects and publications.

Angelo Papachristos
BSc, BSc.PT, MBA

Angelo qualified as a physiotherapist in 1998 and completed his advanced practitioner 2006 followed by an MBA the following year. His ultimate goal is to support the patient to get to their best selves and maximize their recovery from their conditions/ injury/ surgery.
